La cantante nos comenta detalles de su vida y banda
Conversamos con Cadaveria, la vocalista italiana de la banda de horror metal Cadaveria y ex miembro de la agrupación black metalera, Opera IX. En esta ocasión nos habló tanto de su vida personal como de sus proyectos con su banda. Mira lo que nos tiene que decir a continuación:

C: Hi, I’m fine thanks.
2. Sabemos que recientemente la banda reeditó el segundo álbum ‘Far Away from Conformity’ ¿Cómo nació esta idea?
C: Este álbum se agotó muchos años atrás y nunca se reimprimió. Hay una versión rusa, imprenta bajo licencia, aún disponible, creo. Pero el lanzamiento oficial que fue en 2004 es una rareza y algunas copias se venden en Amazon por más de 200 dólares cada uno. Así que básicamente había un vacío en nuestra discografía y quisimos llenarlo para darle a los nuevos fans la oportunidad de escuchar este disco. En 2013 nos acercamos a un tipo de mezcla y nos dimos cuenta que faltaban las voces de las canciones ‘Blood and Confusion’ y ‘The Divine Rapture’ por un problema las copias de seguridad en los tracks originales, así que pusimos este proyecto en pausa mientras reeditabamos nuestro disco debut ‘The Shadows’ Madame’. Luego otros nuevos lanzamientos se realizaron (el doble DVD ‘Karma’, el disco ‘Silence’ y el EP ‘Mondoscuro’). Finalmente al término del 2016 tuve el tiempo y el espíritu de entrar al estudio para regrabar las voces que faltaban. Ahora, ‘Far Away From Conformity’ está nuevamente disponible de nuevo mezclado y remasterizado en su totalidad en CD, vía streaming y descarga, además en una versión en vinilo limitada a 300 copias.

2. We know that recently the band reissued the second album ‘Far Away from Conformity’ ¿How was the idea born?
C: This album went sold out many years ago and was never reprinted. There is a Russian version, printed under license, still available, I think, but the original release that came out in 2004 is a rarity and some copies are sold on Amazon at over 200 US Dollars each. So basically there was a hole in our discography and we wanted to fill it in order to give new fans the opportunity to listen to this album. In 2013 we approached to a remix and we realized the vocals of ‘Blood and Confusion’ and ‘The Divine Rapture’ songs were missing, for a problem in the original tracks backup. So we put this reprint project in stand-by, meanwhile we reissued our debut album ‘The Shadows’ Madame’. Then new releases came (The double DVD ‘Karma’, ‘Silence’ album and ‘Mondoscuro’ EP). Finally only in the end of 2016 I had the time and the spirit to enter the studios to re-record the vocal parts. Now ‘Far Away From Conformity’ is available again with a total remix and remastering, on CD and in digital stream and download. A vinyl version, limited to 300 copies, is close to come.
3. También hicieron un EP junto a Necrodeath ¿Qué nos puedes decir sobre esto?
C: Comparto dos miembros con la banda: el baterista Marçelo Santos (que es Flegias y vocalista de Necrodeath) y el bajista Peter Dayton (GL en Necrodeath). Esto significa que hay una relación entre las bandas, incluso si cada una sigue su propio camino, a veces nos cruzamos diciendo «tenemos que hacer algo juntos pronto o luego» y en 2016 fue el momento. Juntos les dimos vida a ‘Mondoscuro’, un EP de 6 canciones, dos de ellas son nuevas compuestas por la banda y 4 son covers, pueden encontrar el cover de Necrodeath a los Beatles de ‘Helter Skelter’ y Cadaveria con el cover a Type O Negative, ‘Christian Woman’. Además las bandas realizaron cover mutuos: Cadaveria tocó ‘Mater Tenebrarum’ (un clásico de Necrodeath), y Necrodeath tocó ‘Spell’, que es la canción más famosa de Cadaveria. De seguro ‘Mondoscuro’ es algo único, estoy muy orgullosa de el.

3. You also made an EP with Necrodeath ¿What can you tell us about it?
C: I share two band members with Necrodeath: drummer Marçelo Santos (that is Flegias, Necrodeath’s singer) and bassist Peter Dayton (GL in Necrodeath). This means there is a relationship between the bands: even if each one has always followed his own path, sometimes we crossed our ways saying “we have to do something together soon or later”. 2016 was the moment. Together we gave life to ‘Mondoscuro’, a six tracks EP, containing two new songs composed by the bands together and four covers. You can find Necrodeath cover of Beatles’ ‘Helter Skelter’ and Cadaveria cover of Type O Negative’s ‘Christian Woman’. In addition the bands covered each others: Cadaveria plays ‘Mater Tenebrarum’ (a classic from Necrodeath discography) and Necrodeath plays ‘Spell’, that is Cadaveria’s most famous song. Surely ‘Mondoscuro’ is something unique! I’m very proud of it.
4. En temas personales ¿Por qué usas el apodo de Cadaveria? 
C: Cuando entré a Opera IX cada miembro optó por un apodo. El mío está inspirado por Morticia Addams, la cual me encanta, y evoca mi atracción por todo lo oculto y desconocido, por las cosas de cementerio, por cadáveres pálidos y por el mundo gótico en general.

4. In a personal subject ¿Why do you use the nickname Cadaveria?
C: When I entered Opera IX every band member opted for a nick name. Mine was inspired by Morticia Addams character, which I love a lot, and it evokes my attraction for all what is hidden and unknown, for cemetery stuff, for dead bodies’ paleness and for the gothic world in general.
5. ¿Cómo fue para ti ser parte de Opera IX?
C: Fue una experiencia importante y formativa, y como muchas cosas buenas, fue destinado a terminar. Cuando dejé la banda fue como nacer de nuevo como una poderosa estrella, que me dio fuerzas para liderar una banda por mi misma y alcanzar muchos logros.

5. ¿How was for you to be part of Opera IX?
C: It was an important and formative experience and like many good things it was destined to end. When I left them it is like I was born again under a new powerful star, that gave me the strength to lead a band by myself and to achieve so many goals.
6. Sabemos que te gustan las cosas de terror ¿Tienes algún personaje favorito, historia, película, etc en esta categoría?
C: Me gustan las películas de los 70’s y 80’s de Dario Argento, también H.P. Lovecraft y los cuentos de Edgar Allan Poe. Me gustan todas las películas de Alfred Hitchcock y las primeras películas en blanco y negro como Nosferatu de 1922 por Murnau y El Gabinete del Doctor Caligari por Weine. Me gusta también el Exorcista por Friedkin. De las más nuevas disfruto los thrillers y drama como ¡Madre! de Darren Aronofsky.

6. We know you like the horror stuff ¿Do you have a favorite character, story, movie, etc in this category?
C: I like Dario Argento’s movies from the Seventies and the Eighties as well as H.P. Lovecraft and H. A. Poe tales. I love all Alfred Hitchcock’s movies and the early black and white movies like Nosferatu (1922) by Murnau and Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari by Wiene. I like The Exorcist by Friedkin too. Among the most recent movies I enjoy thrillers and dramas like Mother! by Darren Aronofsky.
7. ¿Qué te llevó a la escena metalera?
C: Fue por la canción de Overkill ‘Elimination’, lo escuché en la radio y pensé: está es la música para mí. Luego conocí a Flegias, creamos a Marciume, una banda de punk-doom, luego entré a Opera IX y el resto ya se sabe, creo.

7. ¿What did lead you to the metal scene?
C: It was Overkill‘s ‘Elimination’. It happened I listened to it at the radio and I thought: this is the music for me. Then I met Flegias, we founded Marciume, a punk-doom band. Then I entered Opera IX and the rest is known, I guess.
8. También has sido parte, con la banda, de muchos festivales en Europa ¿Alguna vez has estado interesada en girar por Sudamérica? 
C: Sí, absolutamente. El 60% de nuestros fans son de México y Sudamérica. Hemos estado 3 veces en México y una en Ecuador, y las cálidas bienvenidas que tuvimos son algo único y difícil de olvidar. Así que sí, definitivamente Cadaveria quiere tocar en todos los países de Sudamérica. El problema es encontrar el productor local correcto, un productor brasileño nos estafó el año pasado, espero que tarde o temprano alguno serio nos contacte. No tocaremos para siempre, así que si alguno está interesado, apúrese!

8. Also you have been part, with the band, of many festivals in Europe ¿Have you ever been interested on touring in South America?
C: Yes, absolutely. Our fan base is coming 60% from Mexico plus South America. Since now we have been three times in Mexico and one in Ecuador and the warm welcome we got is something unique and hard to forget. So, yes, definitely Cadaveria want to come and play in all South American countries. The problem is to find the right local promoters. We have been ripped off by a Brazilian promoter last year. I hope soon or later some serious ones will contact us. We will not play forever, so if someone is interested… hurry up!
9. ¿Tienen planes de venir a Sudamérica?
C: No por el momento, estamos libres de otros compromisos de shows en vivo, así que vamos productores, este es el periodo correcto.

9. ¿Do you have plans to come to South America?
C: Not at the moment. We are free from other live shows engagements, so come on promoters, this is the good period.
10. Una vez visitaste Chile, pero con otros motivos a parte de la música ¿Cómo fue tu experiencia aquí?
C: Como editora de videos visité Argentina y Chile cuando estuve haciendo videos para una atleta italiano quien recorría el mundo en bicicleta. Estaba en el equipo, siguiéndola en caravana, amé lo que vi, crucé Los Andes, me gustó el paisaje. Me acuerdo que me gustaron mucho los paraderos coloridos de Chile, tomé muchas fotos de ellos.

10. You visited Chile once, but with others reasons besides music ¿How was your experience here?
C: As a videomaker I visited Argentina and Chile when I was making videos for an Italian athlete who was cycling the world by bike. I was in the team, following her on a caravan. I loved what I saw. I crossed the Andes. I liked the landscapes. I can remember I had a passion for colored bus stops in Chile. I took lots of pictures at the bus stops, there.
11. ¿Sabes algo más de Chile?
C: Dejé el equipo en Santiago y tomé un vuelo de vuelta a Italia, porque tuve otras cosas que hacer, así que solo estuve una semana allá. El resto del equipo estuvo en el desierto de Atacama, es una pena no haber ido, vi las fotos después, es algo mágico, y respecto a la música, siguiendo la escena metalera extranjera, me parece que hay muchos metaleros allá, me imagino que apoyan tanto a las bandas locales como internacionales y que hay una copiosa participación en los conciertos en vivo, eso es genial!

11. ¿Do you know something else about Chile?
C: I left the team in Santiago and I took a flight to come back to Italy ‘cause I had stuff to do, so I just spent one week there. The rest of the team went through the Atacama desert. It’s a pity I didn’t go through. I saw the pictures after, it is something magic. And, concerning music, following the international metal scene, it seems to me there are a lot of metalheads there. I can imagine you support local and foreign bands a lot and that there is a copious participation to live gigs. This is great!
12. De regreso de Cadaveria ¿Cuáles son los planes para el futuro?
C: Estaré ocupada con la promoción de ‘Far Away from Conformity’ por los próximos meses, luego descansaré por un tiempo y probablemente viajaré un poco, necesito hacer nuevas experiencias, conocer gente nueva para encontrar inspiración para el próximo disco de Cadaveria, el cual probablemente sea mi último. Así que debe ser 100% inspirado y necesito tiempo para construirlo y hacerlo inmenso como lo merece. También, la banda tiene solo un guitarrista para shows en vivo, tengo que meditar sobre el futuro para decidir quién grabará las partes de la guitarra y si agregaremos un segundo guitarrista para los shows en vivo. Tengo mucho que hacer, pero primero debo tomarme un descanso, paz y diversión, luego todo estará bien.

12. Back to Cadaveria ¿Which are your plans for the near future?
C: I will be busy with ‘Far Away From Conformity’ promotion for the next couple of months. Then I will rest for a while and probably I will travel a little bit. I need to make new experiences, meet new people to find the inspiration for the next Cadaveria album, that will probably be my last one. So it must be 100% inspired and I need time to build it and make it immense as it deserves. Also, the band currently have just one live guitarist. I have to meditate about the future, to decide who will record the guitar parts on the new album and if we will add a second guitarist for next years live shows. I have a lot to do, but first I have to get some rest, peace and fun. Then everything is gonna be all right.
