Se acerca el debut de los austriacos
Este día viernes se presentará por primera vez en el país, Visions Of Atlantis, agrupación con casi 20 años de carrera y cada vez se consolida más como un referente del power metal sinfónico con voz femenina.
El recién pasado 2018, dieron su paso más importante como banda estrenando su disco ‘The Deep & The Dark’, trabajo que finalmente los posicionó en el mercado internacional y les permitió comenzar un gira mundial que finalmente los trajo a Chile. En el marco de su visita y su último álbum, conversamos con el conjunto y la destacada Clémentine Delauney.

1) Comencemos hablando sobre esta gira,¿Alguno de ustedes ha estado en Latinoamérica? ¿Cómo ven desde Austria al público latino y en particular el chileno?
Clementine: ¡Hola! No, ninguno de nosotros ha estado antes en Sudamérica, será una gran premiere para todos nosotros y estamos ¡muy emocionados por ello! Tenemos muchos seguidores en el continente y parecen ser ¡muy cálidos y dedicados! Pienso que la gente de allá suele mostrar más las emociones y sentimientos más que los europeos, así que esperamos compartir mucha energía y emociones con ellos durante y después de los shows.
2) ¿Cuáles son sus expectativas con su visita a Chile?
R: No estaremos mucho tiempo por allá, lamentablemente, porque tenemos otro show al día antes y el siguiente. Esperamos poder ver un poco la ciudad y conocer a algunos fans después del show si la agenda lo permite.
3) Desde su vereda ¿Cómo ven la escena metal en Europa actualmente ?
R: La escena metalera en Europa es muy estable, los grandes festivales venden sus tickets en pocos días si es que no en horas, las bandas giran constantemente y nuevos discos salen todo el tiempo. La escena también evoluciona con la exploración de nuevas vibras de los músicos, creando djent y post metal puede ser muy refrescante. La escena metalera europea es muy diversa también en estilos, es muy rica en ello.
4) ¿Consideran que su estilo es un género difícil de mantener/cultivar en la actualidad?
R: La escena de metal sinfónico liderado por mujeres tuvo sus horas de gloria años atrás, no es muy atractiva en la escena metalera de hoy en día, si lo pongo de esta manera. Pero aún así, hay muchas grandes bandas que salen a escena como Temperance, Sleeping Romance, y las más establecidas aún publican muy buenos discos y manejan sus tours al rededor del mundo muy bien. La gente que ama el metal sinfónico quiere más de este estilo, y tan pronto como mezclas otras influencias, te clasifican muy rápido de progresivo. Creo que este género es muy restringido a veces, los códigos son muy importantes, pero no importa, seguimos haciendo la música que amamos y mantenemos el contacto con la gente que le gusta.
5) En su opinión ¿Cuál consideran que es el sello característico de Visions of Atlantis?
R: Somos una banda dueto, así que la interacción entre las voces de hombre y mujer son un aspecto importante de nuestra música. Buenas melodías, arreglos sinfónicos y épicos, a veces coros rápidos y canciones que usan la metáfora de los océanos para hablar de temas personales.
6) ¿Qué fue lo que impulsó a Visions of Atlantis a seguir vivo y no realizar la temida gira de despedida hace unos años?
R: Cuando me uní a la banda en 2013, la idea fue hacer un último disco y una gira de despedida, pero cuando empezamos a tocar de nuevo, el estado, la conexión, la energía que compartimos entre nosotros y los fanáticos fue tan buena que no sentimos la necesidad de ponerle un fin a esto, ¡lo disfrutamos mucho! Y tuvimos una respuesta muy buena en nuestro álbum que no hubo forma de concluir Visions of Atlantis.
7) ¿Cómo se han adaptado Clementine y Sigfrieda la banda?, ¿ Cómo se han sentido y cuál ha sido la recepción del público?
R: Tuvimos una muy buena bienvenida por parte de los fans, están muy felices de oír voces clásicas de nuevo y nuestras voces funcionan muy bien juntas. Por supuesto que nos tomó tiempo hacer que las canciones antiguas se sintieran como nuestras, encontré mí lugar en la banda cuando empezamos a tocar y luego lanzar ‘The Deep & The Dark’. Es un sentimiento completamente distinto tocar canciones antiguas a escribir nuevas.
8) ¿Creen que la formación actual es la «definitiva» / la ganadora?
R: Sí, todo iba bien hasta que Siegfried se sintió abrumado por la vida en la gira que VOA estaba empezando a realizar y decidió abandonar la banda en septiembre de 2018. Encontramos un nuevo miembro en Temperance y ahora nos sentimos muy completos, ¡listos para todo lo que está por venir! Nuestra conexión como músicos y seres humanos es increíble. ¡Haría la vida de la banda mucho más difícil sin esto!
9) Sobre su nuevo disco. ¿Cuál es la inspiración para ‘The Deep & The Dark’?, ¿Cómo lo definirian musicalmente?
R: Este álbum es una exploración de metal sinfónico, con canciones que varían en términos de influencias, desde los arreglos hasta los estilos vocales utilizados. Tiene luz y oscuridad, momentos épicos e íntimos, ópera y rock. Queríamos mostrar todos los colores que la banda posee.
10) ¿Cómo ha sido la recepción del disco?
R: ¡Muy bien! Estamos muy contentos por el recibimiento que tuvimos de los fans. Algunos dijeron inmediatamente que este disco es el mejor de la banda y ¡creo que tengo que concordar con ellos!
11) ¿Cuál es la evolución entre los discos ‘Ethera’ y ‘The Deep & The Dark’?
R:Bueno, no es la misma gente involucrada en la escritura de canciones y la producción, así que creo que no hay razón para comparar estos dos discos. Pero cuando decidimos hacer ‘The Deep & The Dark’, queríamos volver a las raíces de la banda y a la esencia de los discos anteriores.
12) ¿Cuáles son sus planes a mediano y largo plazo?
R: Estamos a punto de comenzar nuestro tour sudamericano, luego iremos en un tour en Europa por dos semanas junto a Kamelot y Evergrey, luego trabajaremos en el nuevo álbum.
13) Palabras a sus seguidores e invitación al show
R: No puedo esperar a conocer a nuestros fans de Chile, quienes son parte de los fans que más nos apoyan, al menos en internet. Así que espero que muchos de ellos hayan planeado asistir a nuestro show en Santiago este 8 de febrero.

1) Lets start talking about the tour. ¿Has any of you ever been in latin america?,¿How do you see, from Austria, the LA audience, and specially the chilean one?
Clementine: Hello! No, none of us has ever been to South America before, it will be a grand premiere for all of us and we are very excited about it! We have a lot of followers from South America and they seem to be a very warm and very dedicated audience! I think people from their tend to show their emotions and feelings more than the Europeans so we expect to share a lot of energy and emotions with them during our show and afterwards!
2) ¿What are your expectations on this visit to Chile?
A: We will not stay there for a long time unfortunately because we have a show on the day before and on the next day! We hope to be able to see a bit of the city and to meet up with some of our fans after the show if the schedule allows it!
3) From your point of view, ¿How do you see the metal scene in Europe at the moment?
A: The metal scene in Europe is very stable, the big festivals sell their tickets out in a couple of days if not hours, bands tour constantly, and new releases are coming out all the time! The scene also evolves with musicians exploring new vibes, creating djent and post metal acts that can be very refreshing! The metal scene in Europe is very diverse as well in terms of styles, it’s very rich!
4) ¿Do you consider that your style/genre is hard to maintain/develop/cultivate nowadays?
A: The female fronted symphonic metal scene had its hours of glory some years ago, it is not very “trendy” in the general metal scene right now, if I can put it that way. But still, there are great bands coming out such as TEMPERANCE, SLEEPING ROMANCE, and the most established bands still release great albums and manage to tour on a world wide level. People who love symphonic metal just want more symphonic metal and as soon as you bring in difference musical influences, you’re very quickly classified as progressive. I find this genre restrictive sometimes, the codes are so important. But it doesn’t matter, we keep making the music we love and keep touching the people who love it too!
5) In your opinion, ¿Which do you consider as the «trademark» of Visions of Atlantis?
A: We are a duet fronted band, so interactions between male and female vocals are an important aspect of our music. Great melodies, symphonic and epic arrangements, high speed choruses sometimes and songs that use the metaphor of oceans to talk about personal matters…
6) ¿What was the motivation to keep the band alive and skip the dreaded «farewell tour» a few years ago?
A: When I joined the band back in 2013, the idea was to make a final record and a farewell tour but when we started to play live again all together, the mood, the connection, the energy we shared among us and with the audience was so good that we didn’t feel like putting an end to this right away! We just enjoyed it too much! And when we got the amazing response on our new álbum there was no way we would not take the chance to make VOA truly rise from its own ashes!
7) ¿How has Clementine and Siegfried been adapted to the band in this years?, ¿How have they felt and how has the audience welcome them?
A: We had a very good welcome from VOA’s fanbase. They were very happy to hear classic vocals again and our two voices really worked well together! Of course it took us sometime to make the older songs feel like ours and I think I truly found my place in the band when we started to play our own songs when releasing “The Deep & The Dark”. It’s a completely different feeling rather than playing older songs someone else had written.
8) ¿Do you think that the current line-up is «the one», the winner?
A: Yes, everything was going on fine until Siegfried felt overwhelmed by the touring life VOA was starting to get and he decided to leave the band in September 2018. We found a perfect new Sailor in Meek from TEMPERANCE and now we feel very complete, ready for everything that is yet to come! Our connection as musicians and human beings is amazing. It would make a band life really more difficult without this..!
9) About the new album, ¿What was the inspiration behind ‘The Deep and The Dark’?, ¿How would you define it, musically speaking?
A: This álbum is an exploration of symphonic metal, with songs that vary in terms of influences, from the arrangements to the vocal styles that I used. It carries light and darkness, epicness and intimacy, opera and rock n’roll. We wanted to reveal a lot of the colors the band can come up with.
10) ¿How has the album been received?
A: Very well! We were overwhelmed by the response we got from the fans! Some people said immediately that this álbum is the best the band ever released and I think I have to agree with them!
11) ¿How do you think the sound of the band had evolved from ‘Ethera’ to ‘The Deep and The Dark’?
A: Well it’s not the same people involved in the song writing and production at all, so I think there is no reason to truly compare these two releases. But when we decided to make “The Deep & The Dark”, we wanted to come back to the roots of the band’s music, moving away from what the band released previously.
12) ¿Which are your plans in the short and long time?
A: We are currently about to start our South American tour, then we go on a 2 week European tour with Kamelot and Evergrey, then we will work on a new álbum!
13) Give us some words for the fans and an invitation to the show
A: I can not wait to meet with our fans from Chile, who are part of the most supportive fans, at least online! So I hope many of them have planned to come to our show in Santiago on the 8th of February!
